The mission
This can be challenging in a city full of architectural history. With elegant craftsman, tudor and victorian homes on most streets, building new construction with modern materials at a price point that isn't cost prohibitive has been one of our most difficult problems. Solutions range from stylistic to practical. Trim, roof pitch, porch design and landscaping all come into play, along with tasteful parking options and open space. We try to match colors and aesthetics with each individual location, so as to blend in, not disrupt, the look that is Seattle.
Removing one home and putting in 3 to 6 new ones is our main function as "infill" developers. Using existing infrastructure (and sometimes adding to it), we can increase density and affordability where it is meant to be. Having 10 families one mile from work is better than one family 10 miles from work, as is the case on the north and eastside. People need homes, and the environment would prefer them closer together. Sprawl and climate just don't mix.
